To be present in the now, we commence with one of our fractured personalities, usually one that is driven by a strong interest, for example, a need for mental peace, curiosity as to what the nature of reality is, or a desperate need to heal ourselves.
To the extent that competing needs within our mental programs take over the reins of our day-to-day experiences, we are like a ship where different aspects of ourselves will take control of the rudder.
The journey to self-awareness requires us to know that we exist now, in the moment, as well as to maintain continuity of experience.
Part of our problem is that our bodies are mechanical and designed to respond to real-life events out of pure instinct without having to think of a response. Think of eating, riding a bicycle, or driving a car. Our bodies take the drudgery out of having to focus on each muscle to achieve a goal.
So far, so good, right? The issue is our propensity for going into a trance and losing ourselves in our thoughts. This can easily happen when we are disconnected from our bodies or our emotions. So the very first act that leads to spiritual progression is self-remembering. And yet, we can not self-remember without being in our bodies. Yet, to be in our bodies, we need to access our emotions, many of which are repressed, and to do all of that, we have to learn to separate ourselves from our thoughts.
In this part 3 podcast, I will be exploring these issues and how we can help ourselves.
